Up to what age are fed in Russia mother's milk. FactsMost expectant mothers are preconfigured to breastfeeding, but, as practice shows, not always in the mood coincides with reality. Although the "gold standard" is considered to be exclusively breastfed for the first six months of life, and then continued breastfeeding up to 2 years and beyond by mutual desire of the mother and the child, but generally this situation is still very, very far away. According to global statistics, on average, only 34.6% of infants under six months are exclusively breastfed (from 43.2 per cent for South-East Asia to 17.7% in the European region). In Russia the situation is even worse: according to the 2010 exclusively or predominantly breastfed at the age of six months receive only 5.2%.Of course, it would be very interesting to know why, despite the intention of mothers to breastfeed in most cases this does not happen? This situation concerns not only us, but also advocates breastfeeding around the world. Unfortunately, in Russia, studies on this issue have not yet been done, though, with these we are more in need of the answer to this question. But so far we can only speculate and look at foreign colleagues, who try to analyze why this is happening... In October 2013 in a professional journal Pediatrics published a very interesting and informative study what problems breastfeeding at 3 and 7 days after birth will influence the duration of breastfeeding. In this study, 532 future pervertie mother regularly were asked about breastfeeding, starting with pregnancy and forth several times to 60-th day after birth. Of particular interest is the fact that the researchers did not offer mothers a ready checklist answers, but simply recorded and analyzed all that mother felt it necessary to inform them. Although all mothers answered in their own words, but their feelings, impressions, opinions about the challenges were very similar, which shows how common are their experiences. Thus, although during pregnancy almost all women said that they intend to breastfeed, but on the third day after birth, 92% of them reported that they experienced problems, which hinder their intention. Most of them (52%) had experienced difficulties with attachment of the baby to the breast, and 44% were in pain, and 40% believed that they don't have enough milk for the baby. These concerns were associated with an increased risk of the use of mixtures and likely cessation of breastfeeding; especially were often inclined to stop breastfeeding the mother, who a week after giving birth confirmed that they have difficulties with feeding the baby, and those two weeks are still believed that they don't have enough milk. The researchers in their work emphasize that they did not assess how objective these complaints mothers in particular, they believe that in many cases that the mother was considered a lack of milk was incorrect reading of the signals of the kids, but their task was to learn the opinions of women themselves. In the end it turned out that 2 months after childbirth 47% of mothers have used a mixture, and 21% had stopped breastfeeding. According to researchers, the most important reason for this sad outcome was the lack of breastfeeding support (from outside consultants or support groups GW) in the critical first week of the establishment of breastfeeding. And in this study there were a total of 34 mothers who on the third day after birth had no difficulties with breastfeeding. All they had something in common: they were under the age of thirty years, gave birth naturally without medical intervention and reported that they have strong support for their breastfeeding. Needless to say that all of them in two months, continued to breastfeed? While all but one practiced exceptional GW.So the way to success, probably easier than you think: to ensure delivery with the minimum possible level of intervention and then a good support breastfeeding. And the situation of breastfeeding is better than less medicalize childbirth and the more actively the activities of consultants and support groups GW!Prepared By Irina Rugova.
